I was surprised to see that a good portion of Prospect Park was occupied by lawn tennis courts. I got this from a photo in the book "Brooklyn then and Now" that one of my daughters gave me. It noted that the tennis courts gave way to other athletic fields and I can remember playing tackle football in an area that looked like where the tennis courts were. My primary memory was being so sore from hitting the cold ground that I took a cab home (I just couldn't wait for the bus, climb in it, ride in it and walk several blocks home.) I paid for itself out of my meager funds and when I walked in my father said "you sure bruise easy."
