I remember the Glenwood Road pedestrian bridge very well, as I used to take my bike there, and watch the trains go by. The motormen would wave to us, as the trains passed underneath. One day, in June, 1957, we were off from school (P.S. 217), because of some administrative conference day, which the teacher's attended. I went to the Glenwood Rd. Bridge, as I did on past occasions. All of a sudden, I saw a radio patrol car from the 70th Precinct come to the bridge from the eastern side. A tall, older cop, came over to me and stated "You're not throwing anything on the tracks, are you". I was surprised by his question, as I was just watching the trains. Anyway, I stated "No Sir, I just came here". He never asked me why I wasn't in school, and immediately left. Two years later, my younger brother went to the same bridge, and had his bike stolen by two young hoodlums, while he was also watching the trains. In retrospect, my brother was fortunate, that he wasn't attacked. Incidentally, I knew Harvey Kolonko, as he was in my 8th grade graduating class, at 217 (Class of 1957, and the last 8th grade class to graduate from 217). I remember that he was a heavy set person; however, he was a good hitter, and always slammed the softball far into the outfield. We also played in the now defunct playground facing Westminster Rd. The last time I saw that playground was in 1995, prior to the extension of 217 being built on that area. I took some photos of the building, at that time. I last saw Harvey Kolonko on a videotape, taken in 1990, at a class reunion of the class of 1957. He was on the reunion committee.
