We played by the same rules at the schoolyard of P.S 183. When we played on the street we used sewers to determine single, double, triple or home run. We also played two versions of stickball. The first was to pitch on a bounce, the second was when there was a wall behind and we chalked in the strike zone on the wall, and fastball pitched.

When we played on the street there was always somebody calling the cops on us. We got to know all of the cops after a while and they laughed when they took our broomstick away, knowing that we always had one or two more hidden for use when they left. Also, many of the cops grew up on the same streets and played stickball when they were younger.
