Only in Brooklyn

Since this is a sentimental board of past occurrences in Brooklyn, I wanted to recall a very unusual incident which happened on the Prospect Expressway, in the early 1960's. I was returning with some associates from Manhattan. It must have been in the Spring, as it was still daylight, as it was about 6PM. As we were approaching an overpass near Red Hook, we saw something unusual. There was an object suspended from the overpass up ahead. Since we were going about 45 miles per hour, we didn't realize what it was, until it was too late. A teenager, actually had a fishing line with a heavy sinker suspended from the overpass. As our car came into that area, the sinker struck the windshield. Fortunately, the cars were built very well in those days, and there was no damage. I guess that we were lucky. I've heard of people throwing debris from overpasses onto cars, but the above incident, as unsavory as it was, had to be an original. Does anybody else have similar stories to relate?
