Seeing the new car models every Fall in Brooklyn

As kids, one of our hobbies was going to the auto showrooms in Brooklyn, and seeing the new car models, which came out in the Fall. Even though we couldn't drive for at least six or more years, our interest in the new cars, was not diminished. I still remember the Fall of 1955, when the Chrysler Corporation, came out with the new models of the Plymouth, Dodge, Desoto, and the "exclusive" Imperial. The cars in those days were built like tanks, with heavy steel, and a lot of chrome. The Desoto and the Imperial, were especially well built, luxury cars. Every single one of the new 1956 Chrysler Corporation cars had push button drive, which came as standard equipment . I used to go to a Chrysler dealer on Coney Island Avenue, and Avenue I, to see the new cars, which were parked outside. The Imperial was a car's car. We rented space to a tenant in our garage, as we had a two car garage, on Westminster Road, and Avenue H; the tenant bought an Imperial, and had to have the garage lengthened by several feet to accommodate that "boat". I don't know how he backed that monstrosity out of our garage. Those cars had at least 400 horse power. Also, my Uncle had a 1956 Plymouth Station wagon with push button drive, and he used to mention how convenient it was, in comparison to using a transmission lever. One time, my classmates and I went to a dealer showroom on Empire Blvd, with our bicycles. One of the salesman was not too appreciative of our presence. He stated "Boys, this is a place of business; do you know what that means?". One person in our group stated, "Sure, it means scram", and we left. To this day, I don't know what that guy's problem was? We were not misbehaving or touching the cars. There were no other customers in the showroom. In fact, how did that rude salesman know that we wouldn't recommend any of those new car models to our parents?
