I didn't get to school until 1956, but when I complained about those drills, my dad told us to be thankful that we didn't have to wear dog tags. Not sure if he was talking about his own army dog tags or the ones you were issued. How silly to think that our desks were going to protect us from a nuclear bomb! Especially remember the girls being told to pull their skirts over their heads. Parents ended that nonsense fast.
