I was almost 2 months shy of 7. I was walking home from school - PS 217 - and by the time I got to my corner of East 8th and Webster, people I never seen smile before were celebrating. The local bullies were happy and in no mood for bullying and it was infectious.
After the Dodgers left, I rooted for the Yankees and when the Mets got here, I also rooted for them. Still root for both. It took me a year to realize the Dodgers weren't coming back, so even rooted for them in La La Land for a year before I realized I should hate those traitors and still hate them and O'Malley, although I continued to root for my favorite player, Junior Gilliam. As always, when the Brooklyn Dodgers come up here, don't tell me about your revisionist history of the O'Malley family's bought and paid for blame of Robert Moses so I close out with Rot in Hell, O'Malley!
