Art, I long for the innocence of Brooklyn and the days of real connection (human contact pre-digital days). But as for the food, I live in Manhattan and can still get some of the things you mention. Zabar's on West 80th Street, and Russ N'Daughters on the lower east side still provide a lot of the Jewish food. As for the aged provolone -- gosh, how I also love that stuff -- there are still some stores on the lower east side that carry the Italian food that still tastes like what I remember. Some of the supermarkets carry a fairly decent substitute by Auriccio. But -- be it ever so humble there's no place like Brooklyn in the old days.
