I came back to Flatbush after graduating from college and went down to the Federal Bldg to sign up for Officers School for the Navy. A stout little zebra (lot of stripes down his arm) was leaning against the door jamb with a small stogie sticking out of his mouth. I was dressed well but had a little surfer beard. He looked me up and down, reached around behind him and handed me a couple of brochures and said "read these and come back when you shave that goat's ass off your face." So I went up to the USAF office and a Sgt. Flynn must not have made his goal so we completed all the paperwork and sent I drove to Ft. McGuire in NJ for a physical. I was accepted as an alternate for Officer School and while waiting got the old "Greetings" from the Army. I told Flynn about it and was immediately removed from alternate to accepted and drove to San Antonio for the USAF. All of us have variations of our taking physicals, etc.
