The year was 1967 and I received the notice in the mail that also contained 2 tokens to report to Ft. Hamilton for the Draft. You had to be a genius to fail the written test. The physical exam was a joke and there were the expected characters attempting to do just about anything to get disqualified for service. Phony x-rays, men walking around with pocketbooks and acting crazy. Finally, the last stop was a large room where a sheet of paper was passed out that listed subversive groups. People were told that if they belonged to any of the groups they could get up and leave. Half the guys got up to leave and were yelled at by the person in charge that they should consider themselves the first to be drafted. Weird times! Just like Alice's Restaurant.
