Ist Transit strike I walked from home E.17 street between Newkirk and Foster to work at Central Library Grand Army PLaza. I passed cars on Flatbush Ave. that had started out ahead of me but were making no headway due to heavy traffic volume. BPLwas very lenient as to starting and finishing daily work arrivals and departures! One Thursday nite I was leaving work about 4:30 and since I had tickets to a College basketball twinbill at MSG I hailed a cab. Arrived at MSG close to 7PM! Cabbie and I had exhausted all our conversation by The Village where he thanfully shut the meter down at $10. Garden shoved all 2,000 fans who showed into one small section. Trip home by cab took 1/2 hour!!! 2nd transit strike I worked in Jersy City and combination of car to Brooklyn Bridge and walking across same to WTC to PATH trains got me to work. On one such journey I was able to shake hands with Ed ("How am I Doing") Koch as he was cheerleading us across the Bridge. Reversed the trip going home. Also survived a couple of PATH strikes during my travels to and from Jersey City (LOL).
