At St. Teresa of Avila (prospect heights) the boys schoolyard was always full on a Saturday. Back then (the late '50s) basketball was the GAME. There were six courts in the yard but everyone played on only one. That was where THE GAME was. It was 3 on 3, you had to win by 2 baskets; and I think 16 points decided the game. "Winners" waited and either got their own 3 man team or picked 2 of the losers
This would go on all day and when we were through we'd head for Karps or Lewnes for a cherry coke. Blisters were common -- especially if you were on a winning team. Competition was keen and a number of the players made names for themselves in either High School or College.

I believe there is now a nursing home on the site. but the memories live on. The victories grow with time surpassing the actualities sorta like life !!!
