Danny DeLoache was a fine handball player, and excellent with a Spaulding pink ball. But with the small, hard black ball used in the United States Handball Association tournaments of the late '50s and '60s, he was a clear class below Winfield Balance who played close matches with the best of the era including Ken Davidoff, Howie Eisenberg and Steve Sandler. He was lightning fast with amazing reflexes. He stopped playing around '64 or '65 to devote his life to family and the church.
I am a lifetime handball player since 1960, a USHA national grand master and a USHA award winning writer for "Handball" Magazine. Usually when someone wants to know something about 1-wall handball, he/she asks me.
