"If some were "spinsters", SO WHAT"

Why does everyone who responded take offense at the mention of them being spinsters. I was giving those wonderful women credit for dedicating their lives to being educators. What is so wrong with that? I'll even mention their names in tribute -
Miss Day, Miss Walton, Miss Conroy, Miss Charles, Miss Bennet, Miss Pinkerton, and Miss Wicheban. I'm sure there were others but I just don't remember their names any longer.
