most of the "old timers" on this site know that I owned a poolroom. It was on St. Johns Pl. near Utica Ave. I had it for 15 years until the neighborhood got so bad that only the badest guys would come out at night. At first my customers were all white guys but most of the young ones were junkies.I kicked them all out, including one dealer who would allow boys 16 & 17 years old to use his wife if they tried a shot of heroin. He kept coming back to my poolroom until I had to smack him around a little bit.He sent his uncle to talk to me ,when I told him the situation ,uncle who was a cop said i did the right thing. Three of the yong boys went to jail for 3 years after robbing a drug store. They all came from good families and resumed normal lives after being released. My customers quickly became mostly black and business picked up. I installed another bathroom for ladies ,there were several who became regulars.I keep in touch with a couple of black guys and am very friendly with one.He is a black belt. a graphic artist ,and party promoter. He rents the aircraft carrier Intrepid for his birthday. He has about 5 birthdays every year and sells tickets thru his mailing lists (one white, one black) He makes $15 to $20,000. per party. It was a fun time for me but the income was not enough.Someday I`ll write a book about my adventures in the jungle.
