Since I was a Dodger fan but now live in Massachusetts, it was a natural transition to become a Red Sox fan and remain as rabid a Yankee hater as ever. I belong to a Red Sox fan Board and this morning was reading a post where one of the other fans was saying he's betting on the Yankees to win this year's World Series. A $100 bet will get him $2700 if the Yanks succeed. I replied to him that in 1951 when Dem Bums were 13 games in front of the Giants in August, the bookies were giving 100 to 1 odds against the Giants winning the NL Pennant. It was a sucker bet but anyone who took it really cleaned up.
