I drove a cab out of a garage located at the junction. There were plenty of fleet garages in Brooklyn so there would be plenty of cruising through Brooklyn if only because you had to leave and return to the garage. Sometimes a fare would take you to Brooklyn and you could pick up a half dozen more before returning to Manhattan or the airport.
Of course it was nothing like Manhattan cab traffic, but it is not correct to say there were no yellow cabs cruising Brooklyn--at least in the early 70's.
